Contactless Transaction Limit

For cardholders in the UK the contactless transaction limit is set to increase from £10 to £15 from 20 February 2010. The industry has agreed to increase the contactless transaction limit in response to demand from retailers and cardholders.

The increase to the Contactless limit is a positive step for the industry - widening the appeal of the proposition to new merchant categories such as supermarkets. With a number of major merchants now looking to implement the new technology, acceptance is expected to grow significantly in 2010; providing cardholders with more opportunities to use their Contactless cards.

With the number of Contactless cards increasing every month, the demand for places to use them will undoubtedly increase.

Contactless technology provides retailers and consumers with a fast, convenient and secure payment option. Contactless cards are secured by the same advanced technology that underpins chip and PIN – and to protect from fraud, cardholders using Contactless will occasionally be asked to undertake a full chip and PIN transaction as a security check.

Cardholders will not be liable for any losses on their Contactless card unless they have acted fraudulently or negligently.
